With the long awaited release of Apple's first foray into virtual reality hardware only days away, we have gotten the first exciting announcement of radiance fields on the device. In a Twitter post, the Kiri Engine team have confirmed that their app will be available on launch day with the Vision Pro.

Guess what, KIRI Engine will be available on #AppleVisionPro at launch :)
I've been dreaming about seeing my 3D scans in an actual 3D space, and now it is finally coming true!
Stay tuned for more information in the coming 2 days#kiriengine #SpatialComputing #VisionPro pic.twitter.com/hIpWtKaaHq— KIRI Engine - 3D Scanner App (@KIRI_Engine_App) January 31, 2024

Kiri Engine is the first radiance field company to announce its availability on the device. As part of the announcement tweet, there will apparently be more information to follow. We will have to see how much of Kiri Engine will be accessible, including their recently launched editing tools for Gaussian Splatting.

We have yet to hear anything from Polycam or Luma. Of the two additional companies, I would be surprised if Luma was not available on the Vision Pro, given their founding team's connection with Apple and even working on the headset, prior to launching Luma.

For those who have not yet experienced radiance fields in VR, they are compelling! They retain the hyperrealism and view dependent effects that they are known for and it truly is like re-stepping into a moment in time.

Luckily, you still have two days to drop your captures into the Kiri Engine app, so that they will be ready for viewing on launch day. I will investigate how I can open part of my capture library for people to explore for themselves!
