It's been a little bit since we've seen radiance fields pop up in high profile music videos. On Friday that changed when Usher released his music video for the song, "Ruin" featuring Pheelz.
This time it's Gaussian Splatting being used, rather than NeRFs. The splats were created using Jawset's Postshot, which allows for importing of radiance fields into Adobe After Effects.
The music video and series of 3DGS was created by Warsaw and LA based post production house, Locomotive, and was shot entirely on an iPhone 15 Pro. Radiance fields are versatile when it comes to production because of the ability to create the camera movements in post. By just capturing one at the time of the shoot, you can extend that moment infinitely to explore creative camera movements and storytelling.
Other high profile music videos using radiance fields include Zayn Malik, Chris Brown, and ASAP Rocky.
With Usher due to perform this Sunday at the Super Bowl, will we see Gaussian Splatting pop up as part of the performance? While most will be on the lookout for Taylor Swift, I will be watching for the Splats.
