Italian startup Covision Media has secured €5 million in seed funding to expand its operations and accelerate development of AI-powered tools for generating high-quality 3D content. At the heart of Covision’s platform are radiance fields, which powers its ability to photometrically scan real-world objects at scale— even those with reflective or transparent surfaces.

“The use of radiance field methods is essential to our photometric 3D scanning technology, enabling highest quality results even for reflective and transparent materials,” said the company’s CTO, Burkhard Guessefeld.

This isn’t radiance field tech in the abstract. Covision is actively using them to solve real world problems in the production of Ecommerce assets, virtual try-on models, and synthetic training data for generative AI.

Where It’s Being Used

  • Fashion and e-commerce brands like adidas, ZARA, GUCCI, and Salomon are using Covision’s pipeline to generate high-fidelity 3D models directly for online storefronts and augmented reality.

  • Content studios like Quad Graphics (US), NUREG (Germany), and CLX (France/Italy) are adopting 3D assets as a new media category—beside photo and video.

  • Meta is leveraging Covision’s scanners to build the world’s largest 3D Digital Twin Catalog, fueling its next-generation AI training efforts.

Radiance Fields at the Core

Covision’s system demonstrates that radiance fields are not just research, but production grade. Their scanning pipeline relies on these methods to achieve unmatched fidelity, especially in hard to capture materials where traditional photogrammetry or mesh based systems fall short.

Going forwards, there will be more work in relighting capabilities and a continued integration with existing 3D pipelines. Their team urges the research community to continue to advance in these areas to drive larger industry adoption forwards.

Investment and Growth

Backers of the €5M round include CDP Venture Capital’s AI Fund, Euregio+, Redstone VC, The Techshop, and a network of high-profile angels:

  • Prof. Pietro Perona (Caltech)

  • Prof. Daniel Cremers (TUM)

  • Franco Fogliato (CEO of Fossil Group)

  • Nathaniel Barling (Andreessen Horowitz)

The funding will be used to scale the scanning network, develop new text-to-3D and image-to-3D tools, and support customers in automating their 3D content workflows.

“The world is three-dimensional, and Covision Media is playing a key role in digitizing it,” said CEO Franz Tschimben.

Covision joins a growing cohort of companies building real businesses on top of radiance field technology—proof that these methods are ready for industry.
