This morning, my inbox held an exciting surprise: the release of a free Unreal Engine 5 Gaussian Splatting plugin, freely available under the Apache 2.0 license. In a world where photorealistic 3D scene reconstruction is increasingly common, the XVERSE 3D-GS UE Plugin emerges as a game-changer, joining the ranks of Luma AI and Volinga's Unreal Engine Plugin.
The plugin is currently only available for Windows 10 or 11 and is compatible with Unreal Engine 5.1., 5.2., and 5.3. There is additionally a packaged Windows executable demo, that can be downloaded from their release.
XVerse is justifiably proud of its latest offering, designed to revolutionize how we interact with and edit 3D scenes generated by Gaussian Splatting. Built on the robust foundation of UE5, it harnesses the engine's full potential, simplifying and enhancing the visualization, editing, and management of these models.
The plugin boasts several features and functionalities, including the below:
Niagara-Based Rendering: High-quality, real-time visualization and rendering of 3D Gaussian Splatting, leveraging UE5’s Niagara system for unparalleled graphical fidelity.
Seamless Import and Conversion: Easy importing and conversion capabilities from original Gaussian Splatting scenes (.ply file) to the plugin's format.
Hybrid Rendering Integration: Ability to combine Gaussian Splatting models with other UE assets for hybrid rendering.
RTS and Geometry Editing: Advanced tools for real-time strategy (RTS) and geometric modifications of models.
Dynamic Illumination: Support for dynamic lighting effects, enhancing the realism of Gaussian Splatting scenes. Dynamic Illumination comes disabled by default, but can be toggled with a single click. This allows for the full gamut of light types within Unreal Engine, including directional, point, spot, rect, and sky lighting.
VFX Integration: Application of visual effects (VFX) to Gaussian Splatting scenes, elevating the visual experience.
Automatic Scene Enhancement: Automated enhancement processes for Gaussian Splatting scenes, improving quality with minimal effort.
XVerse's commitment to enhancing the XVERSE 3DGS UE Plugin is evident in their planned updates. These include automatic level of detail (LOD) generation, collision generation, preview window support, enhanced 3DGS asset editing, and advanced asset compression and production capabilities.
With the Apache 2.0 License, it enables commercial use, modification, distribution, and private use. If you use this plugin and create amazing things, please either tag me or send it over, so that I can check it out!
Stay tuned for these exciting updates and more as we enhance the capabilities of the XVERSE 3DGS UE Plugin. For more information and detailed insights into the plugin, please visit their Github Repo here. It's incredibly exciting to see a free Unreal Engine 5 Gaussian Splatting Plugin
