Just over two months after the official launch of RealityScan 2.0, Epic Games has quietly rolled out its first update: version 2.0.1. While not a feature heavy release, this update focuses on important stability fixes and usability improvements—many of which target edge cases that are especially relevant for more technical or large scale photogrammetry workflows.

The update includes a small but meaningful improvement to error handling during alignment. Users working with LSP files will now get a clearer error message when trying to align data that has inconsistent feature detection quality.

A few usability touches also made it in. The in app Help section now includes updated guidance on using Shift and Ctrl keys to fine tune the 3D widget when adjusting reconstruction regions or setting the ground plane.

Behind the scenes, 2.0.1 fixes a wide range of bugs, many of which were reported by early adopters working on radiance field pipelines. Several CLI issues were addressed, including a fix to the exportMasks command and a correction to how pose priors are handled when editing locked pose groups.

In the Editor, fixes include resolving problems with triangle selection tools, mask imports, LiDAR display issues, and problems applying masks post reconstruction. The update also corrects some LiDAR import edge cases, including failures when importing ZFS and ZFPRJ files or generating cameras from priors without focal length data.

Texturing also received some attention, though not without caveats. The “Fill in untextured parts” option now works as intended, though Epic notes that texturing can still throw an "Out of memory" error in certain scenarios.

And finally, a handful of bugs in the Help system were addressed, including external links not opening in the browser and outdated documentation around 16-bit and HDR texture generation.

For those integrating the tool into their Gaussian Splatting or radiance field pipelines, many of the fixes, especially around masking, pose priors, and LiDAR imports, will improve pose estimation.

You can download RealityScan 2.0.1 now from the Epic Games Launcher.
