Google has shown a few times now the ability of their Immersive View and how they plan to leverage NeRFs. That was stepped up significantly yesterday at Google IO. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, gave a demo of Immersive View. Here they have taken the route -- no pun intended, of showcasing Immersive View through directions and wayfinding. This announcement also comes on the heels of NeRFs beginning to enter Google Search.
Now as you begin your navigation to a destination, you will be able to see a rendering of your entire journey. The blend between reality and digital becomes more intertwined.
This extends to biking as well as walking navigation. Of the three, I feel that I will be most affected by the walking addition, as I admittedly spend far too long looking at different routes, planning out where to stop for coffee or food, when I'm in a new city.
And with that in mind, earlier this year it was confirmed that London, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Tokyo were first up, with Amsterdam, San Jose, Dublin, Florence, Paris, Madrid, Florence, Seattle, Berlin, Miami, Barcelona, and Venice by the end of the year.
In a blog post, Google shows off more NeRFs, in what I can only guess is through Zip-NeRF to tease the ability of NeRFs.
Pay close attention. We are witnessing one of the largest companies in the world widely adopt Neural Radiance Fields. I strongly believe this is just the beginning, with more companies to follow. NeRFs are going to transform the way humans interact on a daily basis and increase our quality of life dramatically.
