Huawei has added Gaussian splat editing and tiled large-scene rendering to Spatial Recon Kit, its HarmonyOS developer kit for 3D Gaussian splatting.
Spatial Recon Kit has rendered 3DGS since API 6.0.1(21) through GSNode, a render object in an ArkGraphics 3D scene, and the kit loads 3DGS models from MP4, PLY and GLB files. API 6.1.0(23), released in April, added a C API that reconstructs a 3DGS scene from an image series with camera intrinsics and pose. The editing and tiling APIs arrived with the HarmonyOS 26.0.0 SDK, which entered beta at HDC 2026 in June and was released on August 29.
The reconstruction session takes frames from Huawei's AR Engine or from a custom data frame, accepts RGB images only at 1080x1440, and selects keyframes automatically. It exports a PLY file or an MP4 video, supports pause, resume and progress queries, returns refined camera parameters, and runs one session at a time. Huawei guarantees the experience only on Kirin 9020, 9030S, 9030 and 9030 Pro chips and later.
The new spatialEdit module opens a GSNode through GSEdit.editGSNode. Gaussians can be selected with a 2D box, an axis-aligned 3D box, an index list or a 2D mask, then transformed with a 4x4 matrix, recolored in REPLACE, MULTIPLY or ADD modes, or removed, with multi-step undo. Edited models save back to PLY through saveToPLY, and a Phone-only extract3DMainBody call isolates a subject from a screen point the user presses.
TiledGSNode loads large scenes from a JSON manifest in which each tile is a .sog file. The renderer selects tiles from the camera passed to setCamera, requests them from the app through a callback, and loads each one after notifyTileReady, so the app can fetch tiles from remote storage. Huawei Noah's Ark Lab was among the developers of VastGaussian, a large-scene 3DGS method published in early 2024.
AR Engine also gained loadGSModel in 26.0.0, which places one Gaussian model per AR session on some phones and tablets and on TV devices. Rendering covers Phone, Tablet, PC/2in1 and TV, while reconstruction and editing leave out TV. Huawei's consumer page for HarmonyOS 7, whose developer beta also launched at HDC 2026, names JD.com as having adopted Huawei's 3DGS capability to model products quickly.
The kit does not run in the emulator, and its region support excludes Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Spatial Recon Kit is documented now for developers in mainland China.
