LuluSplat, a macOS app from Liquidus Labs, trains gaussian splats entirely on an Apple silicon Mac's GPU through Metal.
Local training on a Mac has largely run through open source projects, from OpenSplat's arrival on macOS in March 2024 to Brush and CorbeauSplat, a free app that drives COLMAP and Brush from one interface. LuluSplat handles frame extraction, pose solving, training and export in a single app.
LuluSplat accepts stills, video, equirectangular 360 footage and Insta360 .insv dual-fisheye clips, mixed in one scene. Blurry frames are rejected at a user-set threshold, and poses are checked before training starts. Existing COLMAP reconstructions can be imported to skip straight to training.
LuluSplat 1.1.0, released September 14, added a second trainer. The original Vanilla trainer, built on msplat, grows splats wherever detail is missing. The new MCMC trainer, built on metal-gauss, trains a fixed budget of splats and keeps moving them to where they help most, so memory use is known before a run starts. Splat budgets from 100k to 100M apply to either trainer. The release also holds Vanilla training images at a quarter of their former size, which Liquidus Labs says halves the memory Vanilla training uses.
LuluSplat 1.1.1 followed on September 15. Oversized captures are now checked before images load, and Vanilla training stops at what the Mac can hold while keeping everything trained so far.
Version 1.0.4, released August 29, added a command line mode, so the app binary doubles as its own CLI. It now offers run, import, train, batch, grant and mcp subcommands that work headlessly, with a --json option for build systems and render farms. The built-in MCP server lets Claude and other assistants start a build, follow training and read training logs as resources.
Finished scenes export as .ply and .splat. LuluSplat requires macOS 15 or later on an M1 or later Mac, and runs offline with no account. The Liquidus Labs site offers the .dmg as a free direct download and presents the App Store version as a way to support development. The Mac App Store lists LuluSplat at $14.99.
