OTOY has released Octane 2026.5 for Cinema 4D, plugin version 2.0.0, which renders Gaussian splats directly in the Cinema 4D viewport.
Splats first reached the Octane C4D plugin with the 2026 Alpha v1.7.0 in September 2025, where they were marked experimental. Version 2.0.0 adds Gaussian splat viewport rendering on C4D 2026 only, along with Gaussian splat loading by the plugin and SPZ format support.
OctaneRender 2026.4 added SPZ v4 to the core renderer in July. The 2.0.0 plugin is built on OctaneRender 2026.5, released September 13, which fixed a memory leak when using Gaussian splats on Windows and Linux.
A separate Realtime mode in the Live Viewer, available on Windows with C4D 2026 only, shares Octane's render results with Cinema 4D as a GPU texture, which OTOY says produces a smoother and faster Live Viewer. Multi GPU setups must have C4D and Octane use the same GPU for the render results. OTOY says the mode will gain realtime denoising in Octane 2027. On release day a user reported a black realtime Lighting view on a multi GPU system, and OTOY replied that it is investigating a fix.
Octane for Cinema 4D 2.0.0 also refactors the Texture Manager, adds liquid velocity vector support, gives each Voronoi Fracture fragment its own instance ID, adds NRC Online Training and SPP options to the Photon, Direct, and Pathtracing kernels, and redraws the icons for the Live Viewer and for Octane objects and tags. OTOY describes 2.0.0 as the product of a year and a half of work on the plugin's stability, usability, and feature gaps, and lists Multiple Render Settings (RenderTargets), improved Picture Viewer export settings, and C4D Nodegraph support for upcoming 2.x builds.
Octane 2026.5 for Cinema 4D 2.0.0 is available now for Windows Studio+ and macOS Prime, covering C4D R21 to 2026.
