DarklightSK has released Splat Slides, a free PowerPoint add-in that places interactive 3D Gaussian splatting scenes directly on a slide.
Splat Slides opens PLY, compressed PLY and bundled SOG files, loaded from the local device or from a direct HTTPS URL. Bundled SOG is the single-file ZIP form of PlayCanvas's SOG format. Files must contain a 3DGS scene, and ordinary polygon PLY models are not supported.
Once a scene is on the slide, it can be orbited, panned and zoomed. Saved camera positions play back as a smooth sequence or advance one view per click, and each view carries its own title, subtitle and caption, with text colors that change along with the camera. Background, render resolution and an optional slow camera rotation are adjustable, and a clean player mode hides the view navigation bar. Settings and camera views export and import as JSON, which holds no model data.
Splat Slides saves its settings and camera views inside the presentation, but local model files are not automatically uploaded to DarklightSK's server or embedded in the PPTX. Presenting from another machine means reopening the same model file or pointing the add-in at an HTTPS scene URL whose server allows cross origin loading (CORS).
The add-in needs an internet connection and a graphics environment with WebGL2 or WebGPU, and performance depends on the device, render resolution and splat count. On the Mac version of PowerPoint that DarklightSK tested, the live add-in covers other slide objects, so slide text belongs in the player's own text fields.
A demo scene ships with the add-in, Alexander Omelko's Amanita Muscaria mushroom under a CC BY 4.0 license, so the controls can be tried without a model file. Splat Slides needs no account, is free for personal, educational and commercial use, and runs in Slovak or English. The Marketplace listing covers PowerPoint on Windows, Mac and the web, including Microsoft 365.
Splat Slides 1.0.0.5 is available now as a free add-in on Microsoft Marketplace.
