It’s been a few weeks since the last StorySplat update, and a lot has happened. With version 1.4, StorySplat has rolled out some of its most significant improvements yet, including Plus and Business plans, a brand-new Skybox system, and major refinements to hotspots, exports, and performance.
From enhanced customization for enterprise users to backend improvements that make the platform more powerful and user-friendly, these updates are shaping StorySplat into an even stronger tool for immersive storytelling.
One of the first instances of StorySplat being used in a traditional journalism setting was just published, featuring a story on Women’s Ice Hockey.
What’s New in v1.4?
Skybox System & Camera Enhancements
One of the biggest visual updates is the new Skybox System, allowing creators to add a 360° image as a background, giving scenes a much more dynamic and immersive feel. Camera controls have also been improved, with a new Invert Camera Option and Near/Far Clipping Plane Adjustments, giving users finer control over how their scenes are framed.
Hotspot System Improvements
The hotspot system received a big upgrade, making interactive elements even more flexible and useful:
Hotspot images now preload in both the editor and exports for smoother performance.
Fullscreen image hotspots: Clicking on an image hotspot now expands it to fullscreen for better viewing.
Unlit/Lit Shader for hotspots: Allows users to toggle shading styles depending on the scene’s lighting needs.
Hotspot Visibility Range: Creators can now control when hotspots appear or disappear based on the camera’s distance.
Hotspots can now be added with no required interactions, letting users place static images directly into the scene.
Fixed the Iframe Hotspot Export Bug, ensuring external content works as expected.
Plus & Business Plans Now Live
One of the biggest changes in StorySplat v1.4 is the launch of Plus and Business Plans, bringing premium features to power users:
Enterprise Customization: Business-tier users can now add custom preloader logos and wordmarks to their exports.
Privacy Controls: Splats will be public by default starting February 14th, but Plus account users can toggle them private.
Login System Overhaul: Users can now log in with email and password, along with a completely redesigned login page.
Terms of Use & Privacy Policy: New pages have been added to align with platform-wide improvements.
The Plus pricing comes in at $19 per month, with Enterprise at $90, with commercial usage.
Export & Performance Upgrades
Local exports now package everything into a ZIP file for easier sharing.
A Loading Progress Bar has been added to exports, offering better visibility into the process.
Performance optimizations across the board ensure faster scene loading and smoother interactions.
Documentation & SEO Improvements
A brand-new Documentation Site has been launched, making it easier for users to find guides, troubleshoot issues, and learn about all of StorySplat’s features. Meanwhile, the Discover Page is currently being rewritten in Next.js for improved SEO and sharing previews.
What’s Coming Next?
The roadmap for StorySplat continues to be packed with new features, including:
The ability to add multiple splats or meshes to the same scene at the same time.
SuperSplat Integration, expanding editing capabilities.
AZERTY Keyboard Support for international users.
Mobile Scene Navigation UI Overhaul for a more intuitive experience.
Documentation Updates & Interactive Tutorial Videos to make onboarding even smoother.
Direct Audio Uploads for Waypoints, removing the need for external links.
Known Issues & Ongoing Fixes
With so many new features rolling out, a few known bugs and to-dos remain on the team’s radar:
When loading a GLTF or GLB as the main model, the Splat Fade Effect must be turned off before exporting, or the mesh will be invisible.
Occasionally, the Navigator fails to load, requiring a page refresh.
To use the SplatSwap system, new scenes must be uploaded, saved, and refreshed first.
SplatSwap should trigger when the camera reaches a waypoint, not just after passing it.
Sometimes, saved splats fail to load, requiring a refresh to fix.
With StorySplat v1.4, the platform has taken another step forward, refining core features while introducing new levels of customization and interactivity. And with multiple splats per scene, SuperSplat integration, and mobile UI improvements on the horizon, it’s clear that StorySplat is only getting better.
