Happy New Year! StorySplat is kicking off 2025 with an exciting new update that takes immersive storytelling to the next level. Version 1.3.6 introduces two major features—SplatSwap and Walk Mode—that give creators even more tools to bring their stories to life.

With SplatSwap, you can now preload multiple splats and seamlessly transition between them at specific waypoints or scroll percentages. This feature opens up endless possibilities for dynamic storytelling and smooth scene changes. Want to see it in action? Check out this SplatSwap example export.

Meanwhile, Walk Mode lets you explore your scene on foot, adding an interactive layer that’s perfect for virtual tours or detailed scene exploration. Combine this with the improved VR mode, which now respects navigation meshes, and you’ve got a more intuitive and immersive experience for users across devices.

What’s New in v1.3.6?

  • SplatSwap: Preload and hot swap between splats at waypoints or specific scroll percentages, complete with transition effects.

  • Walk Mode: Walk freely through your scenes, perfect for up-close exploration.

  • Updated Hotspots: Hotspots now support iframes, offer more style controls, and allow external URL buttons, making scenes even more interactive.

  • Node Material Fade Effect Toggle: Choose whether to apply fade effects to splats for more dynamic visuals.

  • FPS Counter: Available in both the editor and exported splats when in debug mode, helping creators fine-tune performance.

  • PLY-SPZ Conversion Tool: Easily convert between PLY and SPZ formats, streamlining workflows.

  • Pagination for Explore Page: Improved navigation with pagination and a bug fix for better usability.

  • Export Template Updates: Better templates for streamlined exports.

  • Improved Splat Loading: Faster and more reliable loading of splats.

  • VR Mode Improvements: Navigation meshes are now fully supported.

  • Bug Fixes: Addressed issues like the SPZ drag-and-drop bug and other small performance tweaks.

One of my favorite parts of this update comes with the Explore page. It’s now pretty easy to share your captures with people, in addition to still retaining the guided tour aspect of the platform. Additionally, you’re able to search for specific captures and can also see a view counter.

Looking Ahead: What’s Coming Next
The StorySplat roadmap is packed with exciting features. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming soon:

  • Plus and Business Tier Accounts: Unlock premium features and enhanced customization.

  • Mobile Control Improvements and Bug Fixes: Smoother interactions on mobile devices.

  • 360 Image as Skybox: Bring more depth and realism to your scenes.

  • Play/Pause Controls: Gain more control over auto-playing through waypoint paths.

  • Better Documentation and Interactive Tutorials: Making it easier than ever to get started with StorySplat.

These updates continue to make StorySplat a standout platform for immersive storytelling and creative expression. StorySplat can be accessed directly from their website and is currently free!

Stay tuned for more updates as StorySplat evolves—2025 is just getting started!
