Zillow, one of the preeminent real estate platforms in the world, has added radiance field support as part of its Summer Launch.
The new experience, called SkyTour, is the marquee feature in a five tool product drop that also introduced Offer Insights, Rentals Costs & Fees, Tour Itineraries and an upgraded BuyAbility affordability gauge.
Gaussian Splatting is of course a radiance field representation that is able to create lifelike 3D from a series of normal 2D images or video. Gaussian Splatting further renders well into real time rates and on a variety of devices, including mobile.
Zillow has not disclosed whether it relies on an in‑house reconstruction pipeline, but given the company’s scale and performance demands, a proprietary workflow seems likely. For now, SkyTours are limited to exteriors on Showcase Listings, and there is no word yet on when the feature will reach the broader catalog or what it will mean for professionals who currently capture homes.
Throughout this year Shopify plug ins, furniture retailers, and hotel chains dipped their toes into splats; now a household‑name portal with 220 million monthly visitors is validating the format at scale.
Creating lifelike 3D has never been easier, and progress is only accelerating. Expect more large scale launches and announcements built on Gaussian splatting in the immediate days ahead from corporations across a variety of industries.
