If you’ve been curious about neural rendering techniques but unsure where to begin, this upcoming session from The Khronos Group might be the perfect entry point. Led by Shannon Woods, Chair of the Slang Working Group at NVIDIA, the workshop is a guided, hands-on introduction to creating Gaussian splats using Slang that is totally free and open to the public.

Designed with graphics programmers in mind, the session walks attendees through everything from installing Slang to writing and compiling a basic shader, culminating in rendering your first splat. It’s a rare opportunity to get comfortable with neural-style techniques in a highly practical setting — with live code examples, real-time demos, and space for Q&A along the way.

The session assumes a basic understanding of computer graphics and some familiarity with shader or kernel languages like HLSL or GLSL. But no prior experience with Slang or Gaussian Splatting is needed. You can follow along more closely if you’ve pre-installed the Slang compiler, but that’s optional.

This is part of The Khronos Group’s broader effort to make modern graphics programming more accessible, and as always, they maintain a commitment to a safe and inclusive learning environment. Details can be found on their official event page and you register for free here.
