ITS (International Talent Support) is a renowned platform that has been discovering and nurturing emerging talent in fashion, accessories, and jewelry design for over two decades. With the returning next year announced, the ITS 2025 launch video offers a unique fusion of fashion and technology, utilizing radiance field techniques to create a visual narrative that is both captivating and experimental.
Directed by Fabio Bressan, the video showcases how imperfections in Radiance Field method, Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), were used to develop an unconventional, pictorial aesthetic, setting it apart from typical digital fashion visuals. The theme this year for ITS is Borderless, which feels appropriate for the expansive and boundless nature of Radiance Fields.
Fabio Bressan deliberately leaned into the artifacts of GS, such as floaters and other elements that are often discarded, to create a "pictorial" look. "I like the 'pictorial' feel these imperfections provide, which is completely different from the polygonal feel of photogrammetry," Bressan shared. This visual style is enhanced by continuous, unbiased camera movements and a song that evokes a path to peace, guiding the viewer seamlessly through each scene.
There are two general approaches when it comes to reconstructing a radiance field. There are those who prefer the immaculate and hyper real visuals that Radiance Fields can produce when they’re cleanly captured. The second half embrace and love the floaters and dream-like artifacts that can be found within and outside the boundaries of captures.
The natural environments featured in the video aren’t 3D modeled but are composed of real-world scans from various locations, brought together using the power of 3DGS. The models dematerialize into the landscape, visually representing the Borderless theme by blending physicality with virtual environments in a seamless flow.
The creative process behind the video involved compositing real-world landscape scans from various locations into entirely new, virtual environments. These landscapes, juxtaposed with the scanned fashion outfits created by ITS finalists, blur the line between reality and the digital realm. One such outfit is from Marius Janaskausas' collection "Sleeping Beauty," which was envisioned in the video being inspired by Sir John Everett Millais' iconic painting Ophelia.
This fusion of digital and traditional art forms demonstrates how radiance fields can inspire new avenues of creativity across multiple mediums. The captures themself were processed within Luma AI and then cleaned up in SuperSplat.
All of this culminates in the official launch video for the ITS 2025 event, Borderless, which will take place in Trieste, Italy, near the Slovenian border. The contest embraces the historical and cultural significance of borderlines, particularly as the nearby cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) prepare to become European Capitals of Culture in 2025. ITS Contest 2025 aims to embody the concept of defying borders—physical, artistic, and creative.
