The Metaverse Standards Forum’s Volumetric Media Interoperability (VMI) Working Group has announced a major online Town Hall set for November 25, 2025, bringing together industry experts to examine the rapidly evolving landscape of volumetric media.
Running from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. PST, the event will deliver a concentrated look at the current state of volumetric capture, representation, and interoperability across formats, ranging from point clouds and meshes to the rising influence of 3D and 4D Gaussian splatting.
The Town Hall will feature a series of short expert presentations exploring key pillars of the volumetric ecosystem. The speaker list has not yet been released, but I am excited to be one of the featured speakers, contributing insights on the accelerating shift toward radiance field based formats and how they fit into real world production pipelines.
The agenda is as follows, though it remains to still be finalized:
7:00-7:05 Welcome
7:05-7:30 Intro to Volumetric Formats
7:30-7:50 Dynamic Point Clouds and Meshes to Represent People and Objects
7:50-8:10 Moving from Dynamic Meshes to 4D Gaussian Splats
8:10-8:30 End-to-End System for Live Volumetric Sports
8:30-8:50 3D/4D Gaussian Splatting is Here – But is it the Silver Bullet?
8:50-9:00 Break
9:00-9:20 Volumetric Format Considerations from Volumetric Display Manufacturers
9:20-9:40 Volumetric Media Overview
9:40-10:00 Volumetric Media State of Industry Survey
10:00-11:00 Panel on Volumetric Media Formats and Use Cases
The evening concludes with a panel discussion analyzing which volumetric formats best serve various applications.
I have been urged to tell people that there will be a hard cap for this event and they are already seeing a high amount of sign ups, so if the world of dynamic gaussian splatting is interesting to you, I highly recommend registering! The event is open to the public and free, with registration available through the Metaverse Standards Forum.
