MapTiler is a Swiss mapping company whose GeoSplats product georeferences Gaussian splat models and streams them onto 3D web maps with terrain.

Location

Switzerland

Platform

Web SDK on npm (@maptiler/geosplats) rendering in current Chrome or Safari, with upload and georeferencing in MapTiler's 3D Editor

GPU

None published beyond modern hardware with hardware acceleration enabled. The SDK renders splats with WebGPU, and MapTiler recommends current Chrome or Safari on Windows 10 or 11, iOS 26 or later, or Android 12 or later. GeoSplats takes finished .ply splats, so no training GPU is involved

Pricing

GeoSplats is in beta by signup with no separate published price. The SDK needs a MapTiler API key, which MapTiler offers free with 100,000 map loads a month

License

Proprietary, for use only with MapTiler services under the MapTiler JavaScript Module Terms

Georeferencing and streaming Gaussian splat models on 3D web maps with terrain and basemaps

MapTiler is a mapping company headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, with part of its development team in Brno, Czechia, and Petr Pridal as chief executive. It describes its mission as building the most user friendly map publishing platform, and GeoSplats is the product that carries Gaussian splatting.

GeoSplats places splat models directly on MapTiler basemaps and 3D terrain. A user uploads a .ply splat, georeferences and edits it in MapTiler's visual 3D Editor, and publishes it, after which a level of detail system adjusts detail to keep navigation smooth on mobile and desktop. MapTiler first showed GeoSplats at its MapTiler Connect conference in October 2025, reported in February 2026 that its lowest level of detail represents a 3.51 million splat model with roughly 17,000 splats, and opened beta signups in June 2026 with a public demo.

Developers build on the GeoSplats SDK, published on npm as @maptiler/geosplats. A SplatModel is created from a model ID and added to a MapTiler map, and the SDK renders splats with WebGPU alongside the terrain and any MapTiler basemap, including custom styles. GeoSplats SDK 1.2.0 added clickable annotations that pin labels, icons and HTML popups to a model, either following the model when it moves or staying fixed at a longitude and latitude, after version 1.1.0 added a terrain blending method, and 1.2.1 is the current release. MapTiler publishes no changelog for the SDK, so capabilities are documented in its type definitions and README.

The SDK requires a MapTiler API key, which MapTiler offers free with 100,000 map loads a month, and its licence permits use only with MapTiler services under the MapTiler JavaScript Module Terms. MapTiler has published no separate GeoSplats price, and the product page still invites developers to join the beta. MapTiler names tourism and events, real estate, media and construction as target industries, and positions the format for machine learning analysis in monitoring and digital twin work.
