Georeferenced Gaussian splats inside defense and infrastructure applications built on the Luciad SDKs

Octave Intelligence plc is an enterprise software company that makes mission critical software for designing, building, operating and protecting assets. It formed when Hexagon AB spun off its Asset Lifecycle Intelligence and Safety, Infrastructure and Geospatial divisions, which together with ETQ and Bricsys became Octave. Hexagon initiated the separation in 2025 and completed it on May 22, 2026, and Octave's Class B shares began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market in New York under the ticker OCTV on May 28, 2026, with depository receipts on Nasdaq Stockholm. The company reports about 7,200 employees in 45 countries and issues its press releases from Huntsville, Alabama.

Octave's radiance field work sits in Octave Alto, the geospatial platform formerly sold as Luciad. The developer products now carry Alto names, so Alto Browser is the former LuciadRIA, Alto Lightspeed the former LuciadLightspeed, Alto Server the former LuciadFusion and Alto Universal the former LuciadCPillar. Alto Twin, formerly HxGN Smart Sites, is the digital twin product in the same family. Octave aims Alto at defense, aviation, cities, transportation and infrastructure customers.

Octave announced Alto 2026.1 on October 27, 2026 with support for Gaussian splats, alongside live drone and camera video placed on 2D maps and 3D terrain and support for NATO's newest military map symbology and battle plan standards. The press release does not name which Alto products receive splat support and gives no availability date or access terms.

The Luciad developer documentation carries the technical detail. LuciadCPillar 2026.1, now Alto Universal, consumes Gaussian splats as OGC 3D Tiles with glTF payloads, decoded with its Ogc3DTilesModelDecoder class, and its guide offers rendering presets from Low for mobile devices to Ultra for laptops with gaming hardware. A LuciadRIA sample, now Alto Browser, loads splats into a TileSet3DLayer from an OGC 3D Tiles tileset containing SPZ or glTF with SPZ payloads. The documentation covers loading and rendering splats and does not describe generating them in Alto.

Alto Universal builds applications in C++, C# and Android, Alto Browser is a JavaScript SDK for browser applications, and Alto deployments run on premises, in the cloud or hybrid. Octave publishes no pricing for Alto and sells it through its sales team.
