Best for
Combining gaussian splats with classified LiDAR in CAD
Updated
July 2026
Terrasolid develops LiDAR and point cloud processing software that runs inside Bentley MicroStation and Spatix rather than as a standalone application. Its product line covers classification, modeling, photogrammetry, boresight calibration and batch processing, and it is long established in survey, corridor mapping and airborne LiDAR work. The company is based in Finland and prices in euros.
TerraSplat is the product that carries gaussian splatting. It reads PLY files containing gaussian splats and displays them in their correct spatial projection inside the host CAD environment, using GPU acceleration to render tens of millions of splats interactively. The reason it exists alongside the point cloud tools is that splats represent fences, foliage, glass and water in ways a discrete point cloud cannot, capturing transparency and reflection that photogrammetric points drop. Used together with TerraScan, splats can be overlaid on classified LiDAR so a scene is both photorealistic and measurable. TerraSplat reached its first full release at 025.007 in November 2025, and the 026.004 build of March 2026 added support for 2D splats.
Splat handling has also been arriving inside TerraScan itself. TerraScan 025.020, released October 20, 2025, added a Merge Splats operation and the ability to read DJI Terra gaussian splats through a DJI metadata.xml file. TerraScan 026.008, released March 23, 2026, added Cut Points, Copy Points and Paste Points, which Terrasolid describes as mainly intended for manual scene editing with gaussian splat data. The current TerraScan build is 026.016, released July 20, 2026.
Pricing separates TerraSplat from the rest of the catalogue. Every other Terrasolid product is sold either as a perpetual licence with an annual maintenance fee or as an annual subscription. TerraScan is 5,700 euros perpetual with 855 euros maintenance, or 1,710 euros a year. TerraStereo is 3,200 euros perpetual with 480 euros maintenance, or 900 euros a year. TerraSplat appears only in the annual subscription table, at 350 euros, with no perpetual row and no maintenance figure. It is the sole Terrasolid product with no perpetual option, which makes the gaussian splat capability the one part of the stack a customer cannot buy outright. Reduced UAV and Lite editions exist for several products, though not for TerraSplat.
The software is Windows only, following its host applications. Terrasolid publishes release notes and a full price list publicly, and licences are sold through a partner network alongside direct sales.
