The updates to PlayCanvas's Gaussian Splatting viewer are becoming more and more frequent. They recently unveiled PWA support, giving the viewer a native feel on desktop.
Now, Gaussian Splatting is officially supported in the full PlayCanvas viewer, and that comes with a lot more features!
The workflow now resembles a pipeline, starting with SuperSplat. Once you have a trained capture, you can bring it into their SuperSplat editor to crop and clean up floaters. After that, you can move on to the new feature of including it in the PlayCanvas editor. I highly recommend saving a compressed version of your capture. On average, it compresses ~90% of the file size, but this can vary depending on your edits and capture size.
The PlayCanvas Editor is a powerful visual environment for building and publishing 3D scenes. Once you're in the PlayCanvas Editor, bring your edited .ply file through the New Asset option and select Upload. From there, you'll have access to the full suite of Editor options and the Asset Store, including adding sound, annotations, VR/AR support, and even animations!
The release also comes with a series of effects that can be utilized, similar to Irrealix's plugin for After Effects, but this one doesn't require any prior knowledge.
The team at PlayCanvas has done a great job showcasing how it can be used for educational content, making a full series of hyper-realistic captures with annotations. PlayCanvas Showcase
