StorySplat has released version 2.5 of its gaussian splatting tour builder, which adds spot and point light shadows that the scan itself can block, procedural clouds, and a far larger splat editor.
StorySplat 2.4 arrived in June with virtual staging from a text prompt, native LCC2 import, and procedural rain, snow and fog. In 2.5, directional, spot and point lights each carry a Cast Shadows option, and Scan Casts Shadows lets the capture's own walls, trees and furniture block light from directional lights and up to two spot or point lights, so a lamp in a scanned room stops at its walls.
StorySplat 2.5 clouds are built from gaussian splats, generated from a seed when the scene opens, and cast soft moving shadows on the scan as they drift with the scene wind. Wind, which StorySplat labels experimental, sways splat objects separated from the scan, so an isolated tree bends from its trunk while the ground stays put.
Splat editing, which first arrived as basic cleanup in StorySplat 2.0, now works on every format StorySplat loads, including PLY, compressed PLY, SOG, SPZ, GLB with KHR_gaussian_splatting, streamed LOD scenes, and LCC and LCC2 imports. Lasso, polygon, brush, 3D brush and 3D magic wand selection sit alongside a clone stamp for patching holes left by tripods or people. Remove floaters previews everything it will remove in red, then deletes it in one undoable step.
The Scene Agent, still in beta, is a chat assistant that operates the editor, placing hotspots, lights, waypoints and audio and running Splat Edit cleanup through the same undo history as manual edits. StorySplat 2.5 also exposes those tools to agents built into the browser through WebMCP. A browser agent cannot save, publish, export or discard without a confirmation click in the editor, and the WebMCP bridge can be switched off.
Render Video exports a tour's waypoint path as a landscape, vertical, square or 360° MP4, rendered frame by frame on the local GPU. StorySplat says animation is out of beta, Regions replace the earlier Focus & Highlight and Annotation Layers panels, and a stereo 3D view outputs red/cyan anaglyph, side by side and top and bottom frames. VR leaves beta and is offered in every scene on Meta Quest, Pico and Apple Vision Pro, while desktops and phones opt in with ?vr=1 or a visitor VR mode.
StorySplat 2.5 is available now.
