The PlayCanvas team has added a bunch of new updates to the extremely popular gaussian splatting editor SuperSplat with the release of Version 2.7. This bumps the editor in line with the latest PlayCanvas Engine release, bringing support for both the loading and rendering of plys using the ever growing in popularity compression method, Self Organizing Gaussians.
Another nice quality of life addition in this release is a revision to the Export Dialog box for .plys. The PlayCanvas team has removed the submenus under the current export button. Users can now decide to compress (or not) their ply from a checkbox and the number of SH bands is also included in the same screen.
Workflow improvements continue with per layer export selection. When a project contains multiple splats across several layers, you can decide exactly which splats make the cut instead of exporting the entire scene each time. It is a small change that removes a lot of friction, especially on larger projects where you might be iterating on one area while leaving the rest untouched.
SuperSplat is completely free and comes with an MIT License. If there is a feature you would like to see, please consider opening an Issue on GitHub or creating a pull request. The full changelog can be found here.
