Captures Studio

Captures Studio, the web based reconstruction and editing platform, has been chipping away at creating a unified Gaussian Splatting platform since its beta. With V1.0.0, they've taken a more decisive pass at unifying the stack.

Beginning with what's most important to users, their reconstruction fidelity has definitely improved. Higher quality outputs from images and videos suggest the underlying pipeline has been meaningfully updated. From some of their sample before/after comparisons, the results are consistent with a PPISP addition, though Captures Studio hasn't directly confirmed this.

Additionally, Captures Studio's processing infrastructure has been overhauled to significantly reduce queue times. Alongside the reconstruction improvements, the Gaussian Splat Editor has received many updates. While not directly stated, the editor appears to be built on top of PlayCanvas's SuperSplat.

The feature that stands out most is one click splat alignment. Collapsing it to a single click signals a level of platform maturity that separates a developer tool from one that can realistically live in a production pipeline.

The 1.0.0 release also brings a redesigned UI across the platform. This is less technically notable than the reconstruction changes, but delivers a cleaner, more intuitive interface.

This release marks Captures Studio's first stable version following its early access period. They also have a free tier, where you can upload up to 1 GB for processing. Learn more here.
