Tim Fennell has released Gaussian Splat Patch, a Blender extension that erases, clone stamps and heals Gaussian splat scans.
The add-on edits splats opened through the native PLY and SPZ import that Blender 5.3 brings with its native splat support, and it requires Blender 5.3, which is still pre-release. Fennell developed it against the 5.3 alpha and notes that it relies on how 5.3 stores splat attributes, so a change before the final release would require an update.
Fennell built the tool to clean insect specimen scans of dust, stray hairs, and the pin and the hole it leaves. Gaussian Splat Patch adds seven brushes to the 3D Viewport sidebar, Erase, Select, Clone, Heal, Spot Heal, Bridge, and Restore. Clone works like the clone stamp in Photoshop, and Gaussian Splat Patch rotates cloned splats to fit the target surface normal, including their view dependent color in SH bands 1 to 3, so highlights turn with the surface. Heal shifts the cloned color to match the ring around the destination, while Spot Heal picks a matching nearby patch on its own.
Bridge is for a hole that is already empty. The Bridge brush reads the intact surface in a rim around the painted area, fits a gently curved surface across the gap, and covers it with splats grown from the rim or cloned from a sample point.
Edits are non-destructive. Removed splats are hidden at zero opacity with their original opacity saved in the .blend, added splats are tagged, and the Restore brush returns any painted area to the original scan. Strokes do not create Blender undo steps, because on large scans each would copy the whole cloud.
According to Fennell, the Blender 5.3 PLY exporter writes 0 points for a point cloud, so the add-on ships its own Export Splat PLY. That exporter writes the standard INRIA 3DGS layout read by Brush, SuperSplat and Blender. Fennell has tested the add-on on three bee scans of up to 135k splats and on a 2 million splat test file, where strokes that add splats take about 0.6 seconds.
Gaussian Splat Patch v0.1.12 is available now for free under the GPL-3.0 license.
