Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and versatile Hardware Engineer to contribute to the research, development, and maintenance of our next-generation image acquisition systems using the latest image sensors and state-of-the-art camera technologies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware engineering, hands-on experience building multi-camera rigs, and proficiency in software development to design, implement, and optimize integrated systems for virtual production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Multi-Camera Acquisition System Development

  • Research, design, and develop multi-camera data acquisition systems.

  • Work with modern image sensors and understand image sensor architectures and terminology.

  • Design and develop multi-camera rigs for deployment with volumetric capture and Gaussian Splatting technologies.

  • Work with camera synchronization technologies including:

    • TTL

    • GenLock

    • PTP

    • Timecode

  • Utilize industry-standard communication protocols including:

    • LVDS

    • UART

    • SPI

    • I²C

    • CRC

  • Write low-level embedded software in C for microcontroller development.

  • Design and implement high-performance data transfer interfaces.

  • Stay current with emerging hardware technologies and recommend improvements.

Software Development

  • Design and develop camera control software using web technologies, Python, or C++.

  • Build intuitive operator interfaces for camera rig control.

  • Develop data transfer protocols, harvesting mechanisms, and data injection pipelines.

  • Optimize throughput and turnaround time to maximize camera rig bandwidth.

  • Design and develop monitoring systems that report camera rig status and support efficient troubleshooting.

System Integration, Maintenance & Support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate image acquisition systems into virtual production stages.

  • Provide technical support for camera rig operation and maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner.

  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to support evolving production needs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience designing PCBs with CAD software (Altium preferred).

  • Strong programming skills in Python and C++.

  • Experience developing control systems for image acquisition and data harvesting applications.

  • Deep understanding of camera technologies, including:

    • Rolling vs. global shutter

    • On-board vs. off-board data storage

    • Image compression techniques

  • Experience with 3D printing and 3D modeling is a strong plus.

Compensation

$150,000 – $200,000 USD per year

This salary range applies to applicants for the Los Angeles, California position. Final compensation will depend on your qualifications, skills, experience, and work location.
