Radiance Field methods, such as Gaussian Splatting, are ushering lifelike 3D imagery into everyday objects and scenes. With their broad applications, using these techniques to reconstruct something as eye-catching as a car feels like a natural progression—one that the new platform meetwheels aims to capture.

At its core, meetwheels offers a straightforward way for car owners and enthusiasts to create detailed 3D models of any vehicle. All it takes is a simple walkaround video, which the platform processes through a custom Gaussian Splatting implementation. Once generated, the car’s 3D model can be further edited, customized, and showcased through the meetwheels app, with a companion web platform providing seamless viewing.

The driving force behind meetwheels is Daniel Dinnes, founder of DADI3D—a company that also provides 3DGS (3D Gaussian Splatting) solutions. With a background in Unity development and experience creating AR/VR installations for museums and commercial projects, Dinnes brings a broad technical perspective to the platform. His passion for cars and motorsport, combined with a fascination for 3D reconstruction, led him naturally toward the Radiance Field method, Gaussian Splatting.

The core feature of meetwheels centers on scanning: you simply record a walkaround video of your car, and the app transforms it into a 3D Radiance Field—in this case, 3DGS. Once the model is created, it becomes a canvas for user creativity. You can add filters, effects, or fine-tune visual elements to show off your ride.

Similar to Niantic’s Scaniverse, meetwheels also includes an Explore feature, which pins every user’s car on an interactive global map. From there, anyone can “travel” the map to discover vehicles from around the world and leave feedback via the meetwheels app or its web interface.

To take the experience a step further, meetwheels offers browser-based AR capabilities. Simply open a shared link on your smartphone, tap to launch the AR viewer, and see the car superimposed in your real-world surroundings—no extra installations required.

For those wanting to curate a collection, meetwheels provides a Virtual Garage. Each garage is shareable via a link, making it easy for friends or followers to drop in and admire your fleet. If you’re proud of the results, you can even generate photo or video “CarPorns,” thanks to the built-in content creation tools.

Radiance Fields are continuing to trickle their way into all industries that utilize 2D as part of their workflows, in order to bring lifelike 3D imaging into the hands of customers and consumers.

If you’re interested in exploring the future of 3D car showcases, you can experience meetwheels on their website and can be downloaded for free on the iOS App Store.
