Arcturus Vision is the current name of Arcturus Industries, which announced a CUDA Gaussian splatting engine in 2023. The former arcturus.industries domain now resolves to a notice pointing at the Arcturus Vision site, and the company lists Madrid and Seattle. It is not connected to the volumetric video company Arcturus behind HoloSuite, which is a separate business sharing the name.
The Arcturus Vision Camera is a $149 module that attaches to the front expansion port of the Valve Steam Frame and is certified Steam Frame Compatible. Two 32 megapixel Sony RGB sensors sit 64 mm apart, roughly matching human interpupillary distance. Recording runs at 5K per eye, 2464 by 2464, up to 60fps, or 2.5K per eye, 1232 by 1232, up to 120fps, in 10 bit HDR using HLG across a 125 by 105 degree binocular field of view. The module weighs under 10 grams.
The camera records stereo spatial video and performs no reconstruction of its own. Arcturus Vision publishes an official script, avcam_to_3dgs.py, that takes a synced camera MP4, builds an aligned COLMAP scene from the recording's own calibration and trajectory, and then trains in LichtFeld Studio to produce a scene.sog file. It trains at half resolution and limits the result to 1.5 million Gaussians. The script requires a Linux workstation with an NVIDIA GPU, and the vendor states that it has not been adapted for Windows.
Gaussian XR is a free Steam Frame viewer, released on Steam on September 28 2026, that reads PLY and SOG and ships with eight example scenes, including a house on Lake Michigan and a house at different stages of construction. It automatically discovers compatible scenes copied into a GaussianXR folder in Documents on the headset, so a scene produced by the script loads the same way a model trained elsewhere does. A separate Sync app pulls recordings off the headset on Windows or Mac and converts them for playback on Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Arcturus Vision Camera cost and what does it attach to?
The Arcturus Vision Camera is $149 and attaches to the front expansion port of the Valve Steam Frame. It is certified Steam Frame Compatible and does not work with other headsets.
Does the Arcturus Vision Camera record Gaussian splats directly?
No. The camera records stereo spatial video. Creating a Gaussian splat is a separate step that runs off the headset on a Linux workstation.
How does Arcturus Vision turn camera footage into a Gaussian splat?
Arcturus Vision publishes an official avcam_to_3dgs.py script that runs COLMAP for structure from motion and then trains in LichtFeld Studio, writing a scene.sog file. It trains at half resolution and caps the result at 1.5 million Gaussians.
What software ships with the Arcturus Vision Camera?
A spatial video recording and playback app and the Sync app, which converts captures for Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest. The Gaussian XR viewer is a separate free download on Steam that reads PLY and SOG.
Where can I get Gaussian XR?
Gaussian XR is free on Steam for Steam Frame and was released on September 28 2026. It needs an Arm64 processor and 317 MB of storage, and it reads PLY and SOG scenes copied into the GaussianXR folder in Documents on the headset.
