Postshot

After several months without a major release following the platform’s 1.0 launch, Jascha from Postshot has shipped a new update with a few notable additions. While the release includes a wide range of fixes across the pipeline, the most interesting addition is a new photometric compensation system designed to improve how Gaussian splats handle exposure and lighting inconsistencies across captured images. This almost assuredly builds on NVIDIA’s PPISP.

The feature introduces automatic exposure correction, white point balancing, and vignetting compensation directly during reconstruction.

Alongside this improvement, the release resolves a number of issues affecting Gaussian splat training and rendering. Postshot corrected a problem where alpha channels in EXR and TIFF input files were not handled properly and addressed an issue that could introduce artifacts in MCMC under certain conditions.

The update also includes several fixes related to camera tracking and pose management. One issue that caused tracking failures on NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs has been resolved, and the system now correctly preserves camera poses when images are relocated inside a project.

Beyond the reconstruction pipeline itself, the release introduces improvements to integrations and viewing workflows. The Unreal Engine plugin now supports asset paths relative to the project directory, making it easier to move projects between systems or repositories. Additional fixes address crashes that could occur in Unreal Engine 5.6, as well as issues with pivot positioning on the RdncField actor.

While this is not considered a major version update by Postshot, it does contain several improvements that should benefit users. Postshot remains a freemium product, and the new version can be downloaded here.
