zoynctech has released Room Scan Exporter v0.3 for Meta Quest 3 and 3S, which turns headset room scans into Gaussian splats trained on a Windows PC.
Until now the app produced textured meshes, either refined on the headset or sent to its free PC Companion. The v0.3 workflow follows the pattern of SplataraScan, which scans on the Quest, trains in a Windows companion and sends the splat back to the headset. OpenQuestCapture takes a different route and records raw Quest sensor data for training elsewhere.
The Quest app sends a saved scan over the same Wi-Fi network to the PC Companion, which trains the splat at Fast, Standard or High quality. The developer credits Brush for splat training and COLMAP for camera pose refinement, which runs automatically before training to remove the doubled edges and ghosted text caused by headset tracking error. On a fast GPU, zoynctech lists about 3 minutes for Fast, 10 for Standard and 40 for High.
The finished splat streams from the PC back to the headset, where it overlays the real room at life size by default. Show as Model shrinks it to a tabletop model that rotates and zooms with the thumbstick, and Bring to Me places that model in front of the viewer. The Companion's library lists every scan, refine and splat for download, but the splat file format is not stated.
Splat training needs a DirectX 12 or Vulkan graphics card, and a dedicated GPU with 8 GB or more of VRAM is recommended. Streaming works best on 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6, with the PC on Ethernet.
PC refinement now textures each surface from a single photo and levels color across seams, and in the developer's own testing a whole-home scan dropped from about 7 minutes to 1.5. Export remains OBJ with MTL and PNG, or FBX with PNG, and all processing stays on local devices with no cloud upload or account.
Room Scan Exporter v0.3 is signed with a new key, so v0.2 must be uninstalled first, which deletes saved scans that have not been copied off the headset. Room Scan Exporter v0.3 is available now on itch.io on a name your own price basis.
