In a move aimed at improving the realism and efficiency of point cloud workflows, UK-based firm Veesus has unveiled PointClouds2, a new iteration of its point cloud engine that brings support for Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) data.

This update comes as Radiance Field representations, such as Gaussian Splatting, continue to gain traction across sectors like architecture, engineering, and construction, where detailed 3D representations and visualizations are critical. The broader 3D visualization and scanning market has seen steady innovations, with companies beginning to roll out their Gaussian Splatting offerings to their existing base.

Gaussian Splatting is the first Radiance Field method to bridge the gap between research and industry. Given that the input for Radiance Field methods is just 2D imagery, existing users of Veesus’s point cloud solutions may find immediate improvements in their current projects, while new adopters can explore the platform’s capabilities for complex data capture and visualization.

Veesus has made PointClouds2 available for download on its website, inviting professionals from various fields—such as architecture, engineering, and construction—to test and implement the new software in their workflows. It should be noted that Veesus is a paid product, starting at £69.99 a month; however, there is a free one-month trial available.
