Runway AI Film Festival

Runway AI Film Festival returns for its second year!

2023’s Silver award winner, Given Again, was created 100% using Luma AI and is amazing, if you haven’t seen it yet. I am curious to see how NeRF storytelling has evolved over the last year and if people will be submitting more content.

With the amount of innovation, I think it’s likely that we will see a mix of artificial intelligence platforms used such as mixing NeRFs with Kaiber AI, Pika Labs, or perhaps Eleven Labs. Additionally the timing is great, as Runway just announced their NeRF platform, 3D Captures.

Last year the finalists were screened in NYC and it was epic.

AI Film Festival Entry Period

The Film Festival entry period began on September 7, 2023 at 9am EST and will end on February 29, 2024 at 11:59:59 PM EST. While still a ways away, we can expect to have a new winner crowned roughly April 15, 2024.

The jurors have not been publicly unveiled just yet, but Runway said that they will be announced next month, in October.

In order to fully register your film, it needs to meet the following criteria:

1.  Create a 1-10 minute video that features AI techniques. AI can be incorporated into your film either through AI generated content using tools similar to Runway’s Gen-1, Gen-2, Text to Image or Frame Interpolation AI Magic Tools, or through AI editing techniques including but not limited to 3D Capture, Green Screen, Inpainting, or Motion Tracking.

2.  Create a free account on Runway’s website, if you do not already have such an account, and upload the Video Submission to your Runway account.

3.  Complete and submit the registration form found at aiff.runwayml.com/submission to Runway. As a part of the Registration Form, you will be asked to include a link to the Video Submission and a short, written description of the AI techniques used in the Video Submission.

As a note, once you submit it, that’s it. There’s no editing or revisiting, once submitted, so make sure you double check everything!

There are further guidelines about acceptable content here.

AI Film Festival Prizes

The following are the prizes, with a grand total of $61.5K allocated.

The Grand Prix Winner will win:· $15,000 cash; and 1,000,000 Runway Credits (Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $10,000)

The Gold Winner will win:· $10,000 cash; and 500,000 Runway Credits (ARV: $5,000)

The Silver Winner will win:· $5,000 cash; and 500,000 Runway Credits (ARV: $5,000)

The Honoree (fourth and fifth place) Winners will each win:· $1,000 cash; and 100,000 Runway Credits (ARV: $1,000)

The Merit (sixth to tenth place) Winners will each win:· $500 cash; and 100,000 Runway Credits (ARV: $1,000)

We have seen incredible progress all throughout the world of AI this year, so I am very excited to see how far people have come with creating stories! If you would like to see their official page, click here!
