Luma AI

Luma AI is a Palo Alto company that built an early phone app for NeRF and Gaussian splat capture and now builds generative video and image models. Its capture product grew through Gaussian splatting in Interactive Scenes, an Android release in April 2024, a NeRF plugin for Unreal Engine 5, augmented reality viewing and embeddable captures for websites, alongside the Genie text to 3D generator and the Flythroughs video app.

The company changed direction in June 2024 when it announced Dream Machine, a text and image to video model that later gained keyframes and loops. As Dream Machine drew users, queue times for capture processing grew from minutes to as long as a week, and in November 2024 radiance field uploads appeared to be disabled in both the mobile app and on desktop. Luma set January 1, 2026 as the shutdown date for the Flythroughs app, and the App Store notes for its capture app state that Genie was sunset on the same date.

The Luma 3D Capture app is still listed on the App Store for iPhone, at version 1.3.14 from January 2026, and its listing still describes NeRF and Gaussian splat export to Unreal and Unity. The Android app is no longer listed on Google Play. Luma's website no longer presents Interactive Scenes or Genie as products, both former addresses redirect to its generative pages, and the site does not say whether new captures are processed.

Luma's current products are the Luma agent platform, which generates and edits video, image, audio and text for creative and advertising teams, the Ray video models, with Ray3.2 released in June 2026, and the Uni-1 image model. The platform also serves third party models including Seedance, Kling, Veo and MiniMax, and the Luma Dream Machine app remains on the App Store. Individual plans are Plus at $30 a month, Pro at $90 and Ultra at $300, with Team and Enterprise plans by contact.

Luma raised a $43M Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz, and in November 2025 announced a $900M Series C led by HUMAIN with significant participation from AMD, together with a partnership with HUMAIN on a 2GW compute cluster named Project Halo. Luma put its team at over 130 people at that point. In June 2026 it announced the Open Physical AI Lab, which it describes as an open science effort on generalization in physical AI. Phone based Gaussian splat capture is now offered by the alternatives to Luma AI, among them Polycam, KIRI Engine and Scaniverse.
