SHINING 3D develops 3D scanning hardware and software and has focused on optical 3D measurement since 2004. The company reports more than 1,300 employees, customers in over 100 countries and more than 300 authorized patents, with offices in Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Tianjin, Stuttgart, Barcelona, San Leandro, Tampa, São Paulo, Tokyo and Seoul. Its product lines run from FreeScan metrology systems and professional EinScan scanners to the entry level Einstar range, alongside a dental line of Aoralscan intraoral scanners, lab scanners and AccuFab 3D printers.
Radiance field support arrives through the Einstar line, the company's entry level handheld scanners, which currently comprises Einstar Rockit, Einstar 2 and Einstar VEGA. EXStar Hub 2.0, the desktop software for Einstar Rockit and Einstar 2, was announced on October 29, 2026 and adds 3D Gaussian Splatting that combines image data with scan derived geometry to guide reconstruction, with the aim of keeping an object's shape and proportions while preserving its color, texture and surface appearance.
In EXStar Hub, splat generation runs in the cloud rather than on the local machine. EXStar Hub uploads project data to the SHINING 3D Digital Cloud for 3DGS computation, which requires a SHINING 3D passport account, an internet connection that does not run through the scanner's hotspot and enough cloud storage, and the finished result opens in a web browser. The project must contain textures and be the only project in its group, externally imported meshes cannot be used, and regenerating a project's mesh overwrites its 3DGS data. SHINING 3D says 3DGS does not replace a conventional mesh for editing, measurement or manufacturing.
EXStar Hub runs on 64 bit Windows 10 and 11 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 minimum and an RTX 3060 recommended, and on macOS Tahoe 26.2 and above with an M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3, M4 or M5 chip as the minimum. Version 2.0 also adds Real-Time AI Isolation, which filters out backgrounds, turntables and fingers during supported IR scanning on Windows systems with an RTX 3060 or higher, along with wireless calibration and a rise from 20 to 30 FPS for wireless IR scanning without texture and for laser feature scanning. The companion EXStar Mobile app connects to Einstar Rockit and Einstar 2 on Android, with iOS support listed as coming soon, and lists on-device mesh generation and 3DGS creation with cloud upload for sharing results.
ShiningSpace, a browser platform for storing, viewing and sharing 3D assets that SHINING 3D launched on September 23, 2026, lists 3D Gaussian Splatting and 4D Gaussian Splatting among its planned capabilities. It syncs scan data from compatible scanners, including Einstar VEGA and the EinScan Rigil series, through a SHINING 3D Digital Cloud account. The EXStar Hub 3DGS documentation lists no price for cloud computation and shows the remaining capacity of the selected cloud space with an option to expand it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which SHINING 3D scanners can create Gaussian splats?
SHINING 3D's EXStar Hub 2.0, the desktop software for the Einstar Rockit and Einstar 2 handheld scanners, generates 3D Gaussian Splatting models from textured scan projects. SHINING 3D announced the update on October 29, 2026.
Does EXStar Hub train Gaussian splats on the local GPU?
EXStar Hub 2.0 does not compute Gaussian splats locally. It uploads project data to the SHINING 3D Digital Cloud for 3DGS computation, which needs a SHINING 3D passport account and an internet connection, and the result opens in a web browser.
Can SHINING 3D Gaussian splats be used for measurement?
SHINING 3D says its 3DGS output does not replace a conventional mesh for editing, measurement or manufacturing. SHINING 3D positions EXStar Hub 3DGS for product presentation, creative assets and visual archives.
What computer does EXStar Hub 2.0 need?
EXStar Hub 2.0 runs on 64 bit Windows 10 and 11 with at least an Intel Core i7 13th Gen or AMD Ryzen 7 5800, 32 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, and on macOS Tahoe 26.2 or later with at least an M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3, M4 or M5 chip and 16 GB of RAM.
Is ShiningSpace adding Gaussian splatting?
SHINING 3D lists 3D Gaussian Splatting and 4D Gaussian Splatting among the planned capabilities of ShiningSpace in its September 23, 2026 launch post. SHINING 3D gives no date for either.
