Artec 3D is a developer and manufacturer of professional 3D scanners and 3D software, headquartered in Senningerberg, Luxembourg. The company was founded in San Diego in 2007 and moved its headquarters to Luxembourg in 2010, and it also runs offices in Santa Clara, Shanghai, Tokyo and Bar in Montenegro. Artec labels its products Made in Luxembourg, with the exception of Artec Ray, which is made in Redmond in the United States.
The current hardware line spans handheld and portable scanners including Artec Eva, Artec Leo, Artec Spider II, Artec Micro II and Artec Neo, the metrology grade Artec Point II laser scanner and the Artec Metrology Kit, and the long range Artec Ray II laser scanner, which captures scenes and large objects from fixed positions. Artec Leo is wireless and reaches sub millimeter accuracy. Artec Jet, launched in April 2026, is a survey grade mobile SLAM LiDAR scanner that can be walked, driven or mounted to a drone to map sites, tunnels and other infrastructure.
Artec Studio is the company's flagship software for scan capture and processing, now at Artec Studio 20, alongside Artec Studio Lite and the Artec Cloud platform. Artec positions Artec Studio for object level scanning and reverse engineering, with AI photogrammetry that builds 3D models from photos and video, quality inspection and scan to CAD tools.
Artec Twins, released on October 8, 2026, is the first Artec 3D software to generate and render Gaussian splats. The application was conceived for Artec Jet and builds on Artec Studio algorithms, and it creates splats in the application from Artec Jet LiDAR data or from photos and video with no external software. Point clouds, meshes and splats sit in one project and can be switched on demand. Splats import and export as PLY, point clouds export as E57, LAS, LAZ, PTX, BTX, XYZ and RCP, and meshes export as OBJ, PLY, STL, USD and USDZ among other formats.
Artec Twins accepts data from every current Artec scanner and many discontinued ones, and fuses it with smartphone, drone and satellite sources, while scans from other manufacturers import when they use standard formats. Artec states that it renders point clouds of billions of points at up to 200 frames per second without decimation and keeps environments of 100 square kilometers or more interactive, and it publishes no equivalent figure for splats. Analysis covers distance maps against point cloud, mesh or CAD references, cross sections, volumes, CAD primitive fitting, ground control points and as built comparison against design files.
All Artec Twins processing runs locally on Windows 11 (x64). Artec lists an Intel Core i7 or equivalent with 8 or more cores and an RTX 4060 8 GB as the minimum, and an Intel Core i9 or equivalent with an RTX 4090 24 GB as recommended. Artec Twins costs US $6,840 a year by subscription, which includes major feature updates, or US $17,100 for a lifetime license to the purchased version, and both plans include splat creation from photos or point clouds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Artec 3D software create Gaussian splats?
Artec Twins, released in October 2026, is the first Artec 3D software to generate and render Gaussian splats. Artec Twins builds splats from Artec Jet LiDAR data or from photos and video inside the application, with no external software required.
What computer does Artec Twins need?
Artec Twins runs on Windows 11 (x64). Artec lists an Intel Core i7 or equivalent with 8 or more cores and an NVIDIA RTX 4060 8 GB as the minimum, and an Intel Core i9 or equivalent with an RTX 4090 24 GB as recommended, noting that Gaussian splat generation can be more demanding.
How much does Artec Twins cost?
Artec Twins costs US $6,840 a year by subscription or US $17,100 for a lifetime license. The Artec Twins subscription includes major feature updates, the lifetime license gives permanent access to the purchased version, and both include Gaussian splat creation.
What Gaussian splat format does Artec Twins use?
Artec Twins imports and exports Gaussian splats as PLY. Artec Twins also exports point clouds as E57, LAS, LAZ, PTX, BTX, XYZ and RCP, and meshes as OBJ, PLY, STL, USD and USDZ among other formats.
How is Artec Twins different from Artec Studio?
Artec Studio is Artec 3D's flagship software for object level scanning and reverse engineering. Artec Twins targets environments and large scale scenes, with billion point rendering, multi source data fusion and Gaussian splats alongside point clouds and meshes.
