Postshot, a popular platform for locally training Radiance Fields, has quietly rolled out several highly anticipated updates in its lead-up to V0.5.
One of the standout features now allows users to merge multiple radiance field files trained with 3DGS. Notably, these don’t need to be in Postshot’s proprietary .psht format; users can now also work with .ply files, broadening compatibility and ease of use.
As dynamic radiance fields continue to gain traction, Postshot has also introduced support for dynamic captures, enabling users to load multiple files as individual frames in a sequence. There’s no hard limit on the number of files that can be loaded—as long as your computer can handle the workload. In a recent test, I observed an intense dynamic sequence running smoothly at 60 fps with 60 .ply files in Postshot. More on that in the future!
To access these new features, users will need to upgrade to the latest version of Postshot, which remains compatible with Windows. However, given the recent popularity of 3DGS, a Mac release may be on the horizon for this Germany-based company. Postshot continues to be free during its beta phase, though it’s unclear when it will shift to a paid model— though I do not expect this to happen before the end of the year.
While an official release date for V0.5 hasn’t been announced, Postshot’s agile team keeps delivering impressive features. What would you like to see next from Postshot?
