Jawset has released Postshot 1.0.324, continuing a steady cadence of updates to the popular gaussian splat training platform.

Postshot can now export COLMAP databases in text format, alongside the existing binary option. COLMAP's binary format is compact and fast to read. Its text format is human readable and broadly compatible with third-party tools and custom pipeline scripts.

The PLY point cloud format now carries color space metadata on both export and import. When exporting a reconstruction as a PLY, Postshot will embed the working color space; when importing a PLY from another tool, that metadata will be respected. Without this, point clouds can silently acquire the wrong color interpretation downstream. With the media and entertainment industry growing ever more interested in gaussian splatting, this is an important addition.

Epic Games recently updated RealityScan's camera export format in its v2.1.1 release. Postshot 1.0.324 adds support for this new format, keeping the RealityScan to Postshot pipeline intact for users who capture on device and train in Postshot.

The training configuration panel gains a Pose Quality option under SfM settings. During Structure from Motion reconstruction, not all camera poses are estimated with equal confidence — frames that are blurry or poorly overlapped tend to produce weaker estimates. Surfacing pose quality as an explicit parameter gives users a way to filter or weight training based on pose reliability, rather than treating all frames equally.

I personally have noticed a big speed up running SfM from this new update and am curious about the full extent of the SfM updates. Additionally, two UI regressions are resolved for Image Set/Image Properties/Size. They now refreshes correctly in all cases, and double clicking to target a camera in the viewport is restored.

Postshot 1.0.324 is available now from jawset.com.
