Scaniverse Android

Back in April, Niantic Spatial launched its cloud powered Scaniverse platform, unified web workspace, multi user collaborative sites, cloud processed Gaussian splats, and NSDK integration. It arrived for iOS first. Android was acknowledged but deferred.

Android now has the same cloud capabilities as iOS. Teams can upload scans for cloud processed Gaussian splats and meshes at higher quality than on device processing delivers. Multiple users can contribute to shared Sites, with individual captures merged into a single unified model. NSDK integration is also present, meaning Android captures can feed directly into Niantic's visual positioning system for location aware applications. The core loop, capture on device, upload, receive processed splats and meshes, combine with teammates' scans, is now accessible on both major mobile platforms without workaround.

Cloud processing requires a new account, distinct from any existing classic Scaniverse login. The familiar classic experience is still accessible, but the new system is genuinely a different product built on different infrastructure. Second, the free tier includes limited credits, enough to run through the workflow and evaluate quality before committing to a paid plan.

For users on desktop, they can also directly process .insv files from the X4 and X5, while support for panoramic mp4s from cameras like the Antigravity A1 or DJI Osmo 360 are supported.

Niantic is also using this moment to surface updated performance benchmarks for SPZ4, the fourth-generation version of their open source Gaussian splat compression format. SPZ4 compresses 3–5x faster than earlier versions, loads roughly 1.5–2x faster, and delivers up to 20x faster load times in the browser. SPZ4 is not yet integrated into Scaniverse itself, but Niantic is explicitly encouraging third party developers working with splats to upgrade the library now rather than wait.

Niantic Spatial continues to ship more updates to Scaniverse and recently formally expanding to scanning workflows in professional contexts.
