Spatial Fields just dropped version 1.1, and it tackles some real limitations, especially around Mac streaming and high dynamic range prep. This is the first update since its recently released 1.0.
Let’s start with the visual stuff. Color accuracy has been improved across the board, but the headline here is the new HDR mode. When enabled, splats are rendered into an HDR capable render target with a built in exposure slider. People in the entertainment industry will be extremely happy to know that Spatial Fields now offers tone mapping with ACES colorspace to lean into cinematic looks or recover detail in highlights to help preserve highlight rolloff when pushing the exposure.
It is worth noting though is this isn’t a true HDR end to end pipeline (yet). Most of the splats themselves aren’t trained with HDR data, so what you’re seeing is a forward looking addition. Essentially it's preparing the viewer for a future where HDR trained radiance fields might more commonly exist.
One of the biggest pain points in 1.0 was streaming from your Mac to AVP. Because Vision Pro can’t do passthrough in these sessions, anything that didn’t fully surround you would drop you into a void. Basically the same black box behavior you'd get from a WebXR app. V1.1 adds a new “progressive mode” that lets you control the immersion level with the digital crown. It’s a small UI detail that makes a huge difference. You can now have your splat rendered from your Mac and still see your desk, monitor, and other windows in passthrough. For anyone using this setup while working, this fixes it.
There’s also a new gesture that lets you teleport in the direction you’re facing by pinching with both hands. It's a toggle in the transform controls, and it works better in larger scenes than trying to drag yourself around. Translation is also more responsive in general, which helps if you're inside denser reconstructions.
Spatial Fields continues to be a paid product, coming in at a one time cost of $25 and is available on VisionOS, iOS, and AppleTV.
