The Pixel Lab has released a Nebula pack of 72 Gaussian splat assets for building 3D night sky scenes. The studio already sells volumetric nebulas as VDB files across three earlier Nebula packs, and this release brings the subject to its splat line.
Nebula is the fourth pack in that line. It follows Davy Jones's Locker, a set of more than 100 pirate splat assets released in October, along with the earlier 25 asset Clouds pack and a 30 asset Gemstones pack in June. The Pixel Lab made Nebula with Spenser Dickerson, who also worked on Davy Jones's Locker.
Each nebula ships as a .ply file paired with a matching starfield splat. The two can be loaded together, so the nebula carries its own glowing stars, or used individually. The assets are meant to be combined, with several nebulas layered in one scene.
The download also includes an OSL shader preset for Octane and Cinema 4D that adds stars, dust, gas, lighting and depth to the sky behind the nebula.
The splats work directly in Blender and OctaneRender, and in other DCC applications, including After Effects, through third party Gaussian splat plugins. The stated requirement is any application that reads .ply files, and the pack needs 8.7 GB of drive space. The product page does not list splat counts, per asset file sizes, how the nebulas were made, or license terms.
The pack carries a 60 day money back guarantee. The Nebula pack is available now for $69.
