GreenValley International has officially released LiDAR360MLS 9.0, bringing with it a couple of exciting step forwards for reality capture professionals. The new version introduces the LiDAR360MLS V9 GS Reconstruction Module, which enables gaussian splatting based classification. It helps strengthen the ties between LiDAR and next generation radiance fields. Not too long ago, they announced their newest handheld device, the LiGrip O2.

The GS Reconstruction Module combines LiDAR and camera data to deliver cluster based reconstruction at centimeter level accuracy. The new module also supports LOD based rendering, allowing massive datasets to be explored interactively without compromising performance. Seemingly over the past three weeks, we have seen several companies turn their attention to massive scale gaussian splatting. For users who need precision control, the editing suite provides tools for clipping, profiling, and classification labeling.

LiDAR360MLS 9.0 introduces cluster processing for 3DGS, enabling multiple nodes to handle data simultaneously and reduce reconstruction times. For aerial workflows, an internal Structure from Motion (SfM) mode now supports one click processing from image input to 3DGS, extending the software’s reach beyond mobile and terrestrial LiDAR.

A suite of inspection and editing tools has also been added to bring more control to 3DGS outputs. This tool also allows people to bring in trained plys from other platforms, too. Users can generate cross sections for analysis, toggle front, back, left, and right perspectives, and assign semantic information through the new Gaussian Classification Editor. The Primitive Editing tools go even further, allowing adjustments to model instances, custom label imports, and collaborative editing across teams.

For model cleanup, the new Gaussian Deletion Tool makes it easy to remove unwanted noise using polygon, rectangle, or lasso selections. A Surface Mode visualizes Gaussians as ellipsoids, enhancing clarity during fine tuned editing.

Additional highlights include a Flattening Tool for smoothing uneven terrain, enhanced display modes that colorize data by category, label, or height, and map overlays. Users can also now define and customize projection coordinate systems, improving interoperability for large scale projects.

The final reconstructions can also be published and shared online via the LiShare platform. GreenValley has optimized their gaussian splatting reconstruction algorithm, increasing the number of generated splats and improving fine details. These enhancements are especially evident in handheld LiDAR data. We've seen a couple of early field tests, such as Andrii Shramko's 103 million splat reconstruction.

With LiDAR360MLS 9.0, GreenValley International is continuing to develop out their gaussian splatting offering. It's a direction that’s quickly reshaping how spatial data is visualized and understood across a variety of large industries.
