XYN Spatial Scan is a browser based 3D model generation service that Sony operates as part of its XYN spatial content platform. It accepts JPEG or HEIF stills at Full HD resolution or larger, capped at 210 MB per image, and requires a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 500 images per project, with the supported range varying by generation method. The output, in Sony's own words, is PLY in splat format. Sony verifies the service against Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome at version 142 or later and does not guarantee operation elsewhere.

Two generation algorithms are available, Venus and Venus H. XYN Spatial Scan v1.1.0, released July 23 2026, extended Venus H to accept images captured in S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine, which must be imported in HEIF format, bringing wider dynamic range and a broader color gamut into the reconstruction. The same version added camera alignment visualization, which draws the positions of the cameras used during generation directly into the model preview screen, and added coordinate system selection at export with two options, LUF for Y-up and RDF for Y-down. Sony also lists faster image upload, reduced preview loading times, an onboarding tutorial, uploaded image information review, project renaming, and project sorting and filtering.

Capture is handled by a separate application, XYN Spatial Scan Navi. Navi 1.1.0 added support for the alpha 7R VI, the FX2 and the FX3 and FX3A, and introduced Virtual Production Capture Presets in beta under the names Studio 3-Face Wide and Full Circle. Navi runs AR shooting guidance sized to the LED wall in use, displays capture positions in AR, produces a color coded coverage heatmap with a progress score, offers a bird's eye view of the capture area, automates shutter and exposure settings, and links camera, lens and SLAM metadata to the generation process so that assets arrive positioned rather than needing manual placement.

Downstream, the XYN Spatial Renderer Plugin covers Unreal Engine 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6. Sony also lists a disguise path, specifying Director GX 3, Renderer RX III and Disguise Designer r32.3.3 or later, and its specification page for the plugin lists no other game engine and no other media server. Sony PCL has used the pipeline to build virtual production background assets.

Across the XYN product, specification and support pages, Sony does not use the words gaussian splatting, radiance field or NeRF anywhere. The output is described only as PLY in splat format. Sony's usage notes also set two hard boundaries that its marketing does not, stating that the service is designed for stationary subjects and does not support moving ones including people, animals, vehicles and plants moving in wind, and that it is not intended for measurement or surveying.

Access is restricted. As of April 2026 Sony states the service is available to corporate customers with accounts, licensing is metered by execution count, and no pricing is published.

Alternatives
