Shehab Mekky has released a preview of SplatGen for the Blender 5.3 alpha, an add-on that trains and relights gaussian splats inside Blender.
SplatGen Pro 5.2 trained only on NVIDIA CUDA GPUs with at least 6 GB of VRAM. The new build targets Blender 5.3, which adds native gaussian splat import and rendering and is still in alpha. Trained splats are now native point cloud objects saved inside the .blend and rendered in EEVEE or Cycles.
The Standard edition covers dataset creation. A smart camera rig places cameras for indoor spaces, outdoor areas, or a selected object or collection, and a coverage check steps through missed surfaces and flags redundant cameras. Auto Settings compares the user's values against a recommended preset of 35 mm lenses and 1600 × 1200 images. Each dataset bundles RGB images, masks, metric depth and normal maps in a COLMAP-style dataset, and the training point cloud is built from the RGB renders and metric depth. Splatlight added a scene generator in August that likewise renders camera rigs from Blender scenes.
SplatGen Pro adds a V2 trainer, which is built on the Brush training engine, alongside the earlier CUDA trainer, now called Legacy. V2 is the default for new scenes and streams live previews into the viewport with pause and resume. A saved V2 model restores its parameters and iteration count but starts a fresh optimizer, while new Legacy checkpoints also restore optimizer state. Pro exports PLY or SOG for SuperSplat from either trainer.
Both SplatGen editions display splats As Trained or in an approximate Relit mode driven by scene lights, with Response, Brightness and Tint controls and an option to cast shadows. SplatGen describes relighting as an artistic adjustment rather than a reconstruction. Existing PLY and SPZ files open from the View tab.
SplatGen 5.3 runs on Windows x64 only, with Linux listed as coming soon. V2 training supports NVIDIA GPUs and carries alpha support for AMD and Intel, which SplatGen says are not yet validated in this build. Legacy training still requires NVIDIA. Pro costs $13 until Blender 5.3 is officially released, then returns to $25, and Standard is pay what you want from $0 on Gumroad.
SplatGen is available now on Gumroad.
