UK‑based point‑cloud specialist Veesus has released a new plugin for McNeel’s Rhino CAD platform, bringing native support for unlimited‑size Gaussian Splat (3DGS) datasets directly into Rhino’s modelling environment. The add‑on extends the company’s existing “Point Clouds for Rhino” toolset, which was previously dedicated to conventional point‑cloud data.
The plugin handles splats of unlimited size. We have seen larger and larger reconstructions, thanks in part to XGRIDS capturing devices. It also enables Veesus’s tooling features, such as slicing, clipping, and high speed rendering directly within Rhino’s CAD environment and allows the data to be displayed alongside traditional polygon meshes and line drawings.
Gaussian Splatting is the first radiance‑field technique to gain real industrial uptake, thanks to its ability to render at well above real time rates, in addition to friendly file sizes, and lifelike 3D that it outputs. Earlier this year Veesus had added 3DGS support.
While the plugin itself is free, a Veesus subscription is required. To learn more about the plugin and platform, check out the Veesus website here.
