With the release of LCC Studio 1.11, XGRIDS continues its steady push toward a more integrated, production-ready spatial reconstruction platform.
I am most excited about the addition HD enhancement support for PortalCam captures in 1.11, extending a feature previously only available in the higher cost K1 and L2 Pro. This allows users to add supplemental 2D images, from devices like a mirrorless camera or phone to be layered directly onto PortalCam reconstructions, improving details.
For those wondering about the subscription cost for LCC Studio, there was a small, but very important note in their Linkedin post that single reconstructions with export to .lcc are now free. Given that several platforms, including PlayCanvas, Arrival Space, Nucleus, and VR applications like Spatial Fields all support the .lcc format, this is a huge deal!
Complementing this is a new exposure optimization pass, aimed at inconsistent indoor lighting. Overexposed windows, crushed shadows, and uneven illumination have long been friction points for SLAM-driven reconstruction. The timing of this capability is especially interesting, given that NVIDIA literally just released PPISP on Monday, which also helps tackle this problem. There's no word yet if XGRIDS has integrated the capability, but would be very fast implementation. Either way, this should be a huge boost to reconstruction fidelity.
The addition of automatic reading of original acquisition files in USB drive mode further reinforces this capture first philosophy, simplifying data ingest and making it easier to move directly from device to reconstruction without intermediate handling steps.
A more structural change arrives with the merging of Viewer capabilities into LCC Editor, unifying what were previously distinct viewing and editing modes. By collapsing these roles into a single environment, XGRIDS enables users to inspect, adjust, and iterate without context switching. To me, this is an awesome addition.
Version 1.11 also deepens LCC Studio’s scene understanding and authoring layer with the introduction of 3D Layout. This feature supports opening smart floor plan files and performing secondary edits directly within the 3D environment. Building on this, the new Scene Report feature allows users to generate structured reports derived from 3D Layouts, area views, and related scene data, with export support for sharing and documentation. Moreover, users are now able to build guided tours within reconstructions. It is easy to picture the impact on industries like real estate and construction.
To support richer scene composition, XGRIDS has also added an Asset List for fast browsing, searching, previewing, and inserting assets into active scenes, alongside a Properties Panel for inspecting and adjusting key parameters on selected elements.
This is actually a very exciting update for LCC Studio and the XGRIDS ecosystem that I think will actually benefit their users. If you are considering purchasing a PortalCam or one of their devices, please consider using code RADIANCEFIELDS, as that would help me greatly. The newest update can be downloaded directly from their website.
