
XGRIDS has unveiled the Lixel L3, their latest flagship spatial scanner that produces a true color point cloud, a mesh, and a gaussian splatting model from a single pass.
The Lixel L2 arrived in March 2024 as the first handheld LiDAR scanner to output gaussian splats, and Lixel CyberColor followed in April of 2024 as the reconstruction layer across the device line.
XGRIDS proprietary LCC2 format is among the early 3DGS formats supported by established software platforms. The .lcc2 container arrived in LCC Studio V2.0.0 with an SPZ v2 option that Cesium 1.35 and later reads directly. The announcement cites Autodesk's 3DGS support in 3ds Max and Trimble's in SketchUp as evidence of 3DGS moving into mainstream production, and does not name which platforms read LCC2. XGRIDS puts LCC 3DGS output on Unreal Engine and NVIDIA Isaac Sim.
XGRIDS measured the 5 mm relative accuracy in a designated indoor test environment of about 500 square meters, comparing point cloud distances against reference distances established with a total station, on a post processed cloud captured without ground control points, and reports the figure at P68. Real time absolute accuracy is quoted at approximately 2.5 cm.
The L3 carries a 120 m LiDAR running up to 640,000 points per second, a 1/1.3 inch CMOS with 4K HDR, a 4.3 inch display at 1,000 nits, and multi frequency GNSS across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou rated at 0.8 cm plus 1 ppm horizontal and 1.5 cm plus 1 ppm vertical. IMU leveling is 0.02 degrees without RTK fusion and 0.005 degrees with it.
XGRIDS puts typical coverage at around 100 square meters in 10 minutes. In LixelStudio, multi session captures can be matched and fused by region selection with no control points laid in advance, and faces and license plates in the output can be blurred.
The L3's 3DGS deliverable is built on what XGRIDS calls upgraded Lixel CyberColor technology. Pricing and availability are not stated yet.
