Turning 360 camera footage into COLMAP datasets for Gaussian Splatting training
Updated
July 2026
Laskos Virtuals is a Finnish developer that makes two Windows applications for turning 360 camera footage into Gaussian Splatting datasets. The free 360 Gaussian aligns through SphereSfM, with optional Metashape and RealityScan routes, and reached v1.4 in April before v1.4.5 added per clip extraction settings in July.
360 Gaussian Pro arrived in August as the paid version. It replaces SphereSfM with a custom COLMAP build carrying the GLOMAP global mapper, vocabulary tree loop detection and GPU bundle adjustment. It also builds SAM3 keyword masking into the app, with a fisheye preset, custom masks and hand painting.
The Pro pipeline runs in four stages, Extract, Masking, Alignment and Train. It accepts raw dual fisheye footage from Insta360 and DJI Osmo cameras, stitched equirectangular material or plain 2D video. Its output is a sparse COLMAP model with pinhole splits and masks, which goes to LichtFeld Studio, Postshot, Brush or any other trainer that reads a COLMAP dataset.
Version 1.1.0, released September 30, 2026, keeps points seen in only two views during alignment, which Laskos says yields 2.7 times more points with the same runtime. It also adds simple mesh generation, a masking picker mode, version rollback and batching of .insv and .insp files. GPS scaling now checks the GPS track against the camera path and discards bad fixes, and split images carry their focal length, plus their GPS position when the video has GPS, in EXIF for RealityScan and Metashape.
360 Gaussian Pro requires Windows and an NVIDIA RTX 20 series or newer GPU, with 12 GB of VRAM recommended. It costs €20 for a week with no auto renewal, €89 for a year or €149 one time with all v1.x updates. Payments go through Polar, and a trial limited to 14 frames needs no sign in.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 360 Gaussian and 360 Gaussian Pro?
360 Gaussian is Laskos's free app and aligns through SphereSfM. 360 Gaussian Pro is the paid version, with a custom COLMAP build, GLOMAP mapping and SAM3 masking built in.
What hardware does 360 Gaussian Pro need?
360 Gaussian Pro runs on Windows with an NVIDIA RTX 20 series or newer GPU, 12 GB of VRAM recommended and 16 GB or more of RAM. AMD and Intel GPUs are not supported.
Does 360 Gaussian Pro train Gaussian splats itself?
360 Gaussian Pro produces a COLMAP dataset with pinhole splits and masks and hands training to LichtFeld Studio, Postshot, Brush or another COLMAP trainer.
How much does 360 Gaussian Pro cost?
360 Gaussian Pro costs €20 for one week, €89 for one year or €149 one time with all v1.x updates, and its free trial is limited to 14 frames.
