Playing 3DGS scenes and 4DGS volumetric video inside Unreal Engine 5
Updated
July 2026
MLSLabs is the product line of MaLanShan Audio and Video Laboratory, based at the Malanshan Creative Center in Changsha, and its plugin MLSLabsRenderer draws static 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes and 4D Gaussian volumetric video inside Unreal Engine 5. The plugin does not use Niagara. It ships its own low level rendering pipeline built around a precompiled rendering library, wrapped by more than fifty C++ classes on the Unreal side, which is how it holds frame rates at splat counts that particle systems will not carry. The free Lite build reached Fab in March 2026 and is now at V1.0.0.10 beta.
The plugin runs on Windows 10 or 11 in 64 bit only, for both development and packaged targets, against Unreal Engine 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 through DirectX 12. It needs an NVIDIA GPU on Shader Model 7.5 or higher, meaning Turing or newer, with an RTX 2060 as the stated minimum and an RTX 4070 Ti as the recommendation. The vendor lists 7 million Gaussians at 50 frames per second for static scenes and 100 thousand Gaussians at 100 frames per second for volumetric playback, both measured on an RTX 4070 Ti. Imports are standard PLY for static scenes and PLY sequences for volumetric video, and clips keyframe on the Unreal Sequencer timeline like any other asset. LibTorch is decoupled from the package and downloaded on first use.
The two tiers split on licence and on watermarking. The Lite line is free on Fab under Epic's Standard License, with its Unreal side source published in an Apache 2.0 repository that carries 265 stars and 29 forks. The Pro line is sold direct as a subscription at 19.90 US dollars for 30 days, 54.90 for 90 days and 199.90 for 365 days, memberships are non transferable and non refundable, and the paid tier is what removes the watermark from exports. Enterprise terms are handled by email rather than published.
Pro tracks its own release train, reaching Pro_V1.0.3.14 in July 2026 with separate builds for Unreal 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7. Support for the compressed SOG format arrived in Pro_V1.0.2.10 beta, aimed at large static environments that PLY cannot hold economically. Pro_V1.0.3.12 added nDisplay support alongside login authentication, and Pro_V1.0.3.13 added Ubuntu 22.04 rendering, which the vendor supplies on request rather than as a release asset, together with console commands for contrast and saturation and a move to linear depth so that long camera distances no longer occlude meshes sitting behind the Gaussian scene.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MLSLabsRenderer?
MLSLabsRenderer is an Unreal Engine 5 plugin from MaLanShan Audio and Video Laboratory that renders static 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes and 4D Gaussian volumetric video through its own pipeline rather than through Niagara.
Is MLSLabsRenderer free?
MLSLabsRenderer ships a free Lite build on Fab under Epic's Standard License, with the Unreal integration source published under Apache 2.0 on GitHub. The Pro build is a subscription starting at 19.90 US dollars for 30 days and it is the tier that removes the export watermark.
Which Unreal Engine versions does MLSLabsRenderer support?
MLSLabsRenderer supports Unreal Engine 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7. Both the development platform and the target platform are Windows 64 bit, and the plugin requires DirectX 12.
What hardware does MLSLabsRenderer need?
MLSLabsRenderer needs an NVIDIA GPU supporting Shader Model 7.5 or higher, which means Turing or newer. The vendor gives an RTX 2060 as the minimum and an RTX 4070 Ti as the recommendation, and quotes its performance figures on the 4070 Ti.
Does MLSLabsRenderer play 4D volumetric video?
MLSLabsRenderer imports standard PLY sequences as 4DGS volumetric video and plays them back in real time, and the clips keyframe on the Unreal Sequencer timeline. The vendor lists 100 thousand Gaussians at over 100 frames per second on an RTX 4070 Ti.
