Creating photoreal 3D environments for Unreal Engine just got a whole lot faster. Volinga and XGRIDS have teamed up to deliver an end to end pipeline that takes you from real world scan to shoot ready scene in record time, all of course powered by 3D Gaussian Splatting.

At the capture stage, XGRIDS’ multi-SLAM LiDAR hardware, including the recently announced PortalCam and the company’s Lixel scanners, produces accurate, to scale spatial data in minutes, processed through LCC Studio and exported as a PLY. From there, Volinga’s Unreal Engine plugin takes over, instantly importing and rendering the splats with full support for re-lighting, ACES color, and virtual production tools such as nDisplay, VCam, and Depth of Field.

The combined streamlined workflow lowers the barrier to entry for 3D Gaussian Splatting while still delivering production grade precision. Environments come in spatially accurate and ready for critical projects, can be deployed straight into LED walls, broadcasts, or immersive experiences. Perhaps most importantly, they can be turned around in hours instead of days or weeks.

Fernando Rivas Manzaneque of Volinga summed up the collaboration simply: “This partnership bridges the gap between reality capture and real-time storytelling.”

Sunny Liao, Head of Global Business at XGRIDS, echoed that vision: “We’re proud to help democratize cinematic-grade virtual production workflows and can’t wait to see how creators push the boundaries of what’s possible with this powerful pipeline.”

Early adopters have already been combining the two technologies for projects like Picture from Auschwitz and District Cinema Virtual Pre-production, making a formal partnership the natural next step.

The integration is available now for Unreal Engine 5.3 through 5.6. Creators heading to IBC this month will find both companies on the show floor, with a joint launch party on September 13 in Amsterdam.
