XGRIDS has released a major firmware package (version 3.0.2) for its flagship handheld scanners, the Lixel L2 Pro and the compact Lixel K1. The update focuses on faster data handling, tighter ecosystem integration, and a suite of field-friendly workflow improvements that trim the friction out of day to day scanning.
Both devices now write raw captures in a brand-new “.xbin” file type that shrinks project size to roughly one fifth of the previous format. Yes, that means you can now capture five times the amount of data on an SD card.
Firmware 3.0.2 is designed to work in directly with the soon to be available LixelGO 1.2.0 for on site control and LixelStudio 3.3.1.0 for post-processing. Older builds of either application will refuse to open or process the new xbin files, so XGRIDS advises users to update the entire toolchain before going out to capture. As always, backing up existing projects is essential because the firmware loader reformats internal media during installation.
A new country selector lets operators set the jurisdiction they are working in; the scanner then enables only the legal Wi-Fi bands for that region. For surveyors who travel frequently, this quiet tweak means less time digging through regulatory tables and fewer connection errors in the field. Positioning gets a sizeable boost with the K1 gaining selectable GNSS modes for PPK and RTK. The L2 Pro receives the same options plus DJI compatible corrections for teams that fly Skydio or Matrice mapping drones.
XGRIDS has also patched several lingering bugs that occasionally prevented a fixed RTK solution, caused CORS connections to fail over a wired iOS tether, or introduced time stamp offsets in the recorded track.
Both scanners now offer a pared down connection mode that brings up live scanning quickly. Quick Connect skips device activation, RTK login, and remote control hooks, trading those advanced functions for sheer speed when you only need a rapid exploratory pass. Outside of the greatly reduced file size, this is what I am most excited about.
Firmware 3.0.2 also removes the legacy split between “LCC” and “Point Cloud” modes. Everything is now captured as a single data type and converted downstream. With the companion desktop software updated to 3.3.1.0, operators can now trigger scans, monitor battery and storage, and download datasets over Wi-Fi without touching the scanner.
