Scaniverse is set to kick off its first-ever sweepstakes, inviting users to engage with their communities through capturing with their Gaussian Splatting implementation. The event aims to promote exploration and creativity by encouraging participants to capture and share scans of various locations and objects within specific categories. This appears to be the first in a series of events, which would seem to indicate more updates to their platform are on the way.

Scaniverse, owned by Niantic, is a 3D scanning app that allows users to capture high-resolution models of objects and environments using their smartphones powered by Radiance Field method, Gaussian Splatting. This sweepstakes comes on the heels of a productive month for the Scaniverse team. They recently released Scaniverse 4, the latest version of the app, and announced an integration with Snap's Spectacles V5.

How to Participate

Participants are encouraged to venture into their surroundings and use the Niantic Scaniverse app to scan items or places that fit into one of the designated categories. Once a scan is completed, users should upload it to the Scaniverse Map and share it on the Scaniverse Community Forum. There's only a couple submissions so far, so the odds are good! Each unique entry grants one entry into the random drawing, increasing the chances of winning with more submissions.

Timeline

  • Sweepstakes Start Date: September 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM PDT

  • Sweepstakes Close Date: September 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM PDT

  • Drawing and Winner Announcement: September 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM PDT

Scan Categories and Prizes

Participants can submit scans in the following categories:

  1. Public Art (e.g., murals, sculptures)

    • Prize: $50 gift card for one winner

  2. Statues (e.g., historical figures, culturally relevant icons)

    • Prize: $50 gift card for one winner

  3. Splat the Night Away (scans captured at night)

    • Prize: $50 gift card for one winner

  4. Scanner’s Choice (any interesting scan from the community)

    • Prize: $25 gift card each for two winners

Submission Guidelines

All submissions must adhere to Scaniverse's scanning guidelines, emphasizing public places and avoiding recognizable faces to ensure privacy. To qualify, scans must first be posted to the Scaniverse Map and then shared on the appropriate thread within the Scaniverse Community Forum.

Winner Selection

A total of five winners will be selected through a random drawing, one from each specific category and two from the Scanner's Choice category. Winners will be announced on Scaniverse's social channels and community forum next Friday at 12pm PST, receiving their prizes via email.

No purchase is necessary to enter or win the sweepstakes. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible.

For more information and to download the app, visit the Scaniverse website or find it on the App Store and Google Play.
